Keeping active

I suppose I am not the only person in the universe who gets a little more motivated every year, especially were fitness in concerned. It’s like you wake up and say yourself I am going to do this, run this long and walk this long from here to there. This also occurs when you have a holiday planned as well. (At the moment my gym is heaving with people trying to get into shape )

Anyway, keeping active does not mean that you have to commit to heavy workouts, intense programmes and run long distances and end up with a stitch within 5 minutes as you feel so unfit.  If you want to keep active, for me it as all about balance. I attend the gym, walk as a much as I can if the weather is nice and use the stairs a little more often at the train station.  If it is  a nice day walk halfway home, or to the next station which is what I do most of the time.

So for anyone who wants to get a little more active, up their energy levels or even just want to change their lifestyle. Just start at the beginning with two  steps and see where they take you, who knows where you will end up.

Fueling up

As you have gathered by my recent post I like to keep active, healthy and busy…  well anything to keep me from getting bored really.this is one of the reason why I like to go to the gym, keep fit and try and get as much excersice as I can.   At the gym I like to mix it up with both cardio and weights, yes weights as I hear a few gasps but I will go into detail about that another day . Anyway because I use the gym reguraly my muscles  get tired and fatigue starts to set in.  I know in the past  after  40 minutes on the cross trainer my calves used to feel a like rock and the next day I would be walking slower than  normal.

Despite warming up and down, sometimes it did take a while for me to get going. However, not for long

I was introduced to a supplement called ‘Argi’ and since then it has redcued the feleing of tired muscles and kept my enegery levels up, even after the heaviest of workouts (complete conditioning is one). Argi is a sports drink which helps me keep my energy levels up as it contains L-arginine, which also helps reduce my fatigue due to the vitamins b6, b9 and b12.  I was pleasantly surprised after I began drinking it after a few weeks, I didn’t feel the normal tiredness after my workout and in was even able to keep going longer. Now I drink this regularly argi has the added bonus of continuing vitamin d for muscles and c for immune system.  Win win for me !

I have even introduced it to my boyfriend who works out at home regularly and loves running, he reaaps the benefits especially after his leg muscles can get tired very quickly after a back injury many years ago.

So I am raising my glass (of water ) to Argi, keeps my going after my workout and doesn’t taste to bad either. ☺

Can’t digest

Ever since I was born I loved food, I crawled at 3 months for it according to mum. Anyway I have always had a mixed diet, ea ten good with bad and bad with beyond ridculous. As I got older my love was food was getting strained as good wasn’t love returned. Heavy food was giving me indigestion, making me bloat and I was getting frustrated.

So on a quest I was introuced to aloe vera drinking gel which at first I was  a bit apprensive, but thinking about the past years of discomfort I was up for anything to help. After a month of drinking my daily dose I was staring to feel the difference, the bloating reduced and I was able to eat well again. I chose not to eat what upset me and changed my eating habits a little, I was glad I felt the difference and did not want to undo the work the aloe had done for me.

A year on I still feel that benefits, including my hair, skin and nails feeling healtheir. Plus my energy levels and immune system improved, which comes in handy during the cold winter months. I have also managed to convince other members of my family and friends to drink the aloe as well, so far they are happy with it.

So here I  show love for the aloe and for many more years to come.

The heat is on

It comes as no surprise to most of us that if we lead an active lifestyle , our muscles start to ache after heavy activity. You have those days when it feels like you have tiny little drummers drumming on your  muscles, especially when you are climbing stairs .  I know mine do after I use the gym or sometimes walk long distances, like the other day when I walked 4 miles (another story).

Anyway it is always a good idea to look after your muscles as they need repairing after you use them every day, especially during the cold winter months when you need to keep your muscles warm. Plus there is always the possibility that you can experience short or long term damage if not well looked after .

So, as I like to try and lead an active life this heat lotion is just what i need. Not only is it good for aching muscles,  but i also uses it as a decongestant if I get the dreded cold.  I know when I get a cold, it heads straight for my chest and head, which makes sleeping a battle which makes me a cranky lady (not good ).

The heat lotion also has an added bonus as the aroma doesn’t linger for days  (no one wants want to smell menthol all the time ) and is gentle on my skin. I remeber in the past I have used other  brands of heat lotion and they  felt like my skin was on fire, which isn’t the greatest feeling if you want to ease your muscles .

Since discovering this heat lotion I have recommended it to close friends and family, who now swear by it. One of my friends says it part of her ‘Lergie survival kit’ (lol…sorry haven’t heard that word since I was at school ) .  Therefore when  I have to nurse my aching muscles after a touch workout at the gym or a long walk or if I get a chesty cold, this lotion helps me  right out.

Be the best version of yourself

I know we all have days when we winge about our imperfections, what we don’t like and what we would like to change about your bodies.  I know I have in the past, which lead me to try every diet fad in the book and eating more and less of something. In  my teens and most of my twenties I wanted to be taller,  have longer legs , smaller waist, smaller hips and skinnier arms ( you see the long list of wishes I had ). I even used to research what the right weight for my height and what percentage of fat my body should have, it got to the point that I would stress myself out. Despite the fact I was leading an active lifestyle with regular gym visits, classes and walking when I could I felt it wasn’t enough.

However,  when I reached my thirties and I finally decided enough was enough ( plus my mum was getting tired of me asking where the scales were ).  I was doing the best I could to stay in shape and I was leading a healthy enough life for ME. I attend the gym when I can,  keep active by walking as much as possible and eat a balanced diet to suit me and not everyone else.  Yes I eat junk food (I crawled at 3 months for food, what can I say ?) sweets, chocolate and drink the occasional cider, but who doesn’t indulge? You are allowed to treat yourself for being  who you are, living how you  want to live and if it means munching a malteeser bunny on the bus then so be it.

There is one thing that has always stuck in my mind when I was trying to figure it all out, is an ex work colleague who was an anorexic sufferer. One lunch time she mentioned to me how important it was to her to try and eat, especially breakfast.   She said she had to make sure ate something  as at times she would forget to eat. I  remember being sat there thinking about the irony of her telling me to eat properly to aid the body with enough fuel, ‘only silly people skip breakfast she told me . Since then that has always stuck in my mind and I make breakfast the most important meal I can have for the day.

So ladies and gents if you’re reading this, take a deep breath and say to yourself be the best I can be. If you want to change or improve, do it by all means but make sure it is for you and no magazine or anyone else.  I hope everyone can find something they like about themselves even if it’s the length of your arm, the colour of your hair or the way your bum looks in your jeans. Whatever it is, treasure and be the best version of yourself. I am now 37 and it has taken me over 20 years to do that ( yes that me is in the picture last year on holiday. It has taken me that same amount of time to let someone take a photo of me in a bikini ) . I know everyone out there can do it .

No Sense of Direction

feeling-the-need-for-a-change

It is only 2pm at work and it feels like I have done a whole day already, this is due to me having a busy morning almost getting, no actually getting lost in London. I have no problem what so ever admitting that I have no sense of direction, never have and after today I don’t see it improving ( covering my eyes in shame ).

This morning I had to go into central London and I was lost, never been to this place so I called upon the help of the map on my phone and a very loud voice attached to this map telling me all sorts of jargon such as ‘yards and meters’. So as I was trying to figure out where I was going with the aid of my map, I was walking up and down the streets looking for my destination. I must have passed Starbucks, McDonalds and New Look a million times, plus I crossed back and fourth at the same junction opposite a rather fancy gym. During my voyage I was not paying attention to the fact I was working towards my 10k steps, my main priority was getting to where I needed to be and heading to work. Finally after giving up, verbally cursing my phone I asked a passer by who told me ‘straight down there right to the end’.

Sighing a thank you and I was off, only to have my wrist vibrate from my fit bit telling my my 10k steps were done. However, I felt too preoccupied to care as I carried on (usually there would have been a cartwheel or a back-flip- ha! no). Once I reached my destination, I was there only a few minutes only be be told by my manager on the phone that I had to go somewhere else. I held back the tears and I accepted my challenge on set of on my next journey. However this journey I had a better idea of where I was going and I was going near to one of the most famous buildings in London, piece a cake.

So, after walking over 12k steps today (and counting ), getting lost in London I’m feeling a little tired (just remembered I went to the gym last night ) I know I will feel the benefits from my healthy and active morning. Plus, in some small way I can thank my no sense of direction for that and my terrible phone map. Until next time….

Gym? You don’t need to go

fb_img_1467712407716When I was younger I went to the gym on a regular basis and attended every, tone, flatten, pump and conditioning class . I loved it ! However when my routine changed and I had to fit my gym routine around it. This resulted in less visits but I didn’t care, just as long as I was going was all that what mattered.

During that time I always remember hearing the same phrase, ‘You don’t need to go gym, you’re well slim’ (I’m a size 10). Even now I still hear it and think what actually defines a person who needs to use the gym? Is it someone who wants to improve their health? Feels uncomfortable in their clothes or it is just a case of enjoying the gym and working out ?   My reason is a combination of three and more if I really thought about it.    However, whatever size you are and for whatever reason you decide to use the gym, the only thing that should define your reasons  is your motivation and working towards a better you.

Walking and walking

fb_img_1453367711813Ever since I was  6 months I have been walking. I will happily  walk anywhere,  even into glass doors when I am not paying any attention ( another story ). Recently my boyfriend changed his phone  and started to use the same  health app as me. One day we challenged each other to walk  100k steps over the course of 7 days, me being a quick stepper I thought I would win but I didn’t and neither did he. We ran out of time over the week and it became a draw. We wasn’t amused, but having said that we both walk up  escalators,  go for your long walks at the weekend has also my boyfriend has noticed his back and leg feel stronger  (sciatica sufferer ) . So 100k or no 100k, we have both won in some sort of way and taken steps in the right direction to keep walking and walking   (Sorry I couldn’t resist ).

Feeling better

fb_img_1472718961138Everyone knows that when it comes to the darker and winter months, you can feel a bit blah and energy levels are low. The fact that you get up in the dark sometimes and go home in the dark, can actually make you feel that your stuck in a tomb or someone has hit the pause button on a 1980 video cassette tape. One morning last week I actually put on two different colour ugg boots and had to run back home, anyway back to what I am actually talking about. For years I didn’t like feeling tired in the morning and be prone to the latest cold. Plus I wanted to improve my immune system. So, A year ago I began drinking aloe Vera gel. The Aloe Vera is pure and has many benefits, biggest for me was seeing the difference in my energy levels, skin, hair and nails. Plus I have convinced my mum who is a ibs sufferer to drink it and she swears by it . So a year on I have benefitted lots, but still wake up in the dark and go home in the dark, but I haven’t put on two different coloured boots so that’s something I suppose 😎
